Welcome to The Old Blog
Below you will find entry into The Old Blog. These posts cover the entirety of The Big Change from Life Afloat to The Hiatus. It’s a long read so take your time and come back often. While it’s a big ask on my part, understanding how I ended up where – and why – I did will simplify the so-called narrative arc and make a lot less work for me trying to explain all that in each and every current post. So strap in and get started but be warned: there be dragons here.
The Old Blog is shown starting with the oldest post. This – rather thoughtful move on my part – means that, when read in order, you get to see how the whole story with all its twists, turns, and confusing diversions simply falls into place. Sort of like tossing a jigsaw puzzle into the air and having it land with each piece exactly where it belongs.
But that’s life.
Thanks for reading.
When Your Dreams Take Wing
In which the author revisits the addiction that is (are?) wild birds and the joy one gets from seeing how many air miles your credit card provides when in the throes of said addiction.
It’s a Logistical Nightmare
In which the author reveals that he is no planner but goes on to tackle a project requiring logistical skill beyond the level of UPS.
Spades and Shovels
In which the author uses a few well-placed words to hijack your attention and throw you into the etymological vortex that is End Stage Capitalism.
What’s In a Word?
In which the author deconstructs the difference between that actual meaning of a word and the implied meaning of that same word to show you, once again, how you’re being duped into paying more for something that is not even there.
A Question of Balance
In which the author describes his descent from a form-follows-function worldview to one more aligned with what might be called an actual design aesthetic.
You Can’t Always Get What You Want
In which the author revels in his victory in the class struggle that is modern air travel.
